i think he has a yeast infection

23.03.2010

hi my dog has sores on his belly which a friend who used to work in a vet surgery said it looks like hot spots but these sores have weeped and dry up they are around his front arm pits and round but his genitals and it doesnt mater how many times i bath him he still stinks ive looked this up and it says he could have a yeast infection, i was wondering how much it will be to bring him in and have a look at and how much his meds will be if he does have to have a course of antibiotics for this or is there any other cheaper alternatives he did quite a while ago have a prob with his ears but i cleared that up they are fine now hes 9mth old german shepherd thankyou

The list of possible skin conditions is lengthy......a hot spot is not actually a diagnosis or a condition, it is more of a description of the weeping areas....your first port of call would be to come along with your dog for an examination and consultation with one of our experienced Veterinary Surgeons a consulation fee is (currently 22.3.10)£29.20 inlcuding the VAT ...some skin conditions are immediately recognised and can be treated as such others take a little more investigations and can involve blood tests (allergies),scrapes (for mites) and then possible ongoing samples to try and establish the possible cause, followed by  a lengthy time to establish a treatment plan and recovery ..the sooner you get a diagnosis the quicker any long term damage and discomfort can be avoided .....please note some skin conditions can be for life!.
